Moving from BYOND to a Standalone Launcher

Dragon Universe just received its biggest accessibility overhaul yet. For years, playing the game meant going through BYOND — installing their client, making a BYOND account, and digging through a launcher full of unrelated games just to find us. That friction quietly cost us a huge number of new players who gave up before they ever pressed Play.

So we rebuilt the entire front door to the game. Here's everything that changed.

Why We Moved Away From BYOND

BYOND has been the engine behind Dragon Universe for a long time, and we're grateful for it — but as a gateway for new players, it held us back:

• An outdated portal that feels dated and confusing to first-timers.
• Unreliable uptime, meaning players sometimes couldn't even reach the game list.
• Ad-heavy pages plastered with promotions for other games — not Dragon Universe.
• Too many steps: download BYOND → make a BYOND account → find the game → finally play.

Every one of those steps was a chance to lose someone. We wanted getting into Dragon Universe to be as simple as downloading any modern game: click, install, play.

Every update and patch is now neatly organised and sorted by date, so you'll never miss a change again. This replaces the old Discord-only format, where patch notes would scroll away and get buried within a few days. Now there's a permanent, searchable record of everything we've shipped.

The Game Launcher

At the heart of it all is a brand-new, fully standalone launcher that lets you jump straight into Dragon Universe — no BYOND install, no BYOND account required.
